135,000 flee Bajaur clashes: officials

KHAR: Around 135,000 residents have fled tribal areas bordering Afghanistan to escape clashes between troops and Taliban militants, officials said on Thursday. “We have around 135,000 people who have left their homes there,” FATA Additional Chief Secretary Habibullah Khan told AFP. “We have directed officials in adjoining districts to provide shelter, food and health care to the migrating families,” he said. Meanwhile, seven persons including three women were killed in Kas area of Mamoond in clashes between security forces and Taliban, locals said. Choppers targeted a madrassa run by Amr Bil Maroof Wa Nahi Anil Munkar. There were also rumours that Taliban deputy chief Faqir Mohammad had died in a helicopter gunship attack on Thursday. However, no confirmation was available. staff report/afp
